Isuzu C201 Engine Manual
Hi. I am sorry the picture is so big. I don't know how to adjust it. I'm new to this board and to diesels in general. This is my first time I have laid my hands on a diesel engine to work on, but I've started them many times by warming the plugs, then turning over the starter.
I know all about gasoline engines and how they work and that stuff. I've worked on them for 20 years, so I know what sounds to listen for and what to troubleshoot if something isn't right.
I was given a thermoking engine complete. You can see the IP in question too in this picture. Right side of picture, between the oil filter and the drive pulleys.
My goal was to get it started. It had sat since 1997 after a fire destroyed the cab. There is little heat damage to the unit though. The front doors had the paint burned off, but all wiring and hoses are in tact.
Jump ahead a week or two. I removed injectors and sprayed penetrating oil in the cylinders to free up a locked up spot in one of the cylinders, I don't know which one, the crank would turn all the way over but the last 10 degrees by hand. It freed up after working the engine back and forth about 30 times by hand using a 6 inch breaker bar. I never tried it with the starter until it was freed up so I don't think anything is bent or broken to this point.
Oil and diesel filters are changed and diesel has been washed through the diesel lines. Diesel is getting to the fuel inlet fitting on the Bosch PE 4 injection pump.
This kid on youtube made it look easy to do. Put a little spay in the intake while turning it over, and it will take off.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPri9acUF5Y
This is the exact same engine and IP, but his looks like its been to heck and back.
I know, from reading, how inline injector pumps work.
I could feel the compression was very little when we first started turning it over, but it is feeling better. It hardly sucked at all from the intake at first. Now it sucks the intake hose flat if I cover it. It still will won't fire up, but does blow puffs of white smoke out of the exhaust every once in a while after it has been turned over for about 10 seconds. I am not using the glowplugs.
Lets get down to business. What are my questions?
OK. I am getting no fuel to the injector lines. They are loose on the injectors so it should drip when it comes.
So how do I bleed the injector pump? There is a bleeder screw at the same level as the fuel inlet fitting on the ip, but that is the only one I see. I have not opened it yet because I just learned that is what it is. I am terrified of messing something up by loosening things up on the IP. Everything I read says don't touch it.
I think I may have a stuck control rack(rod) since it sat so long, won't know until I bleed the IP. I think I can access it from the oposite side of the govenor. There is a little extending cap on the IP body that I think I can unscrew that will give me access to the oposite side of the rod from the govenor. With the govenor attached. How tough should this be to move?
How do I use the gas rag method instead of either? I hear it is safer.. especially since the engine is not starting right up.
Thanks for your time.
